It says headphones are required

The whole game is direction and distance, so it will not start through the phone's speaker. Any wired or Bluetooth headphones or earbuds work. If yours are connected and it still asks, take them out, put them back, and tap “Check again”.

How should I play?

Sitting down, somewhere safe, ideally in the dark. Do not walk, drive, or go looking for the source of a sound. Nothing the game plays is real, and nothing it plays is a warning about anything around you. You can stop at any time.

Why does it ask about motion?

EARSHOT uses the phone's motion sensors to notice when you freeze, flinch or turn, and the game reacts to it. This is read on your phone and never leaves it.

Does it use my microphone?

No. EARSHOT never records audio and never asks for microphone access. iOS lists a microphone notice only because the audio engine the game is built on links Apple's recording API.

What is free, and what does the purchase unlock?

Two rooms are free to play for as long as you like. One purchase opens the other nine, once and for good. No subscription, no ads.

I bought it, but the rooms are locked

Open the room list and tap “Restore purchase”, signed in with the same Apple ID you bought it with. This also works on a new phone or after reinstalling.

Refunds

Purchases are handled by Apple. You can request a refund at reportaproblem.apple.com.
